An Extension and Conversion to a Derelict Farm Building into a Microbrewer and Restaurant

Our brief for this project involved extensive repair and conversion of a series of disused and derelict farm buildings into a microbrewery and restaurant. The buildings form part of a traditional farming estate and include a Grade II listed farmhouse, and a nearby cottage which were renovated prior to the start of this later phase.

Within the main threshing barn extensive restoration was undertaken, including lifting, repairing and relaying the original herringbone brick floor. The north range of barns had fallen victim to a number of unsympathetic interventions, as a result, they were dismantled and rebuilt in their previous form to modern standards.

To accommodate the equipment required for brewing beer, a contemporary-styled steel framed barn was built alongside the existing barns. This barn was finished in a modern cedar cladding, designed to silver over time and blend with the surroundings.

The whole estate, including the brewery and farmhouse, has been surrounded by an extensive landscaping scheme which integrates the old and new within their settings.
