Bolehill
Wirksworth, Derbyshire Dales
Located on Bolehill Road in a conservation area, on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Wirksworth in the Derbyshire Dales, this development offers breathtaking views of the Ecclesbourne Valley and Middlepeak Quarry, with the site’s dramatic topography, presenting an exciting design opportunity.
To create a design which seamlessly integrated within the natural landscape, the design was meticulously adjusted to complement the existing topography. This thoughtful approach ensured that the dwellings blended effortlessly into their surroundings, respecting the scale and character of neighbouring properties\
On the south-west of the site, the dwellings are designed to appear as single-storey structures at entry level, harmoniously blending into the landscape to reduce visual impact. Each home will feature traditional-style chimneys, clipped eaves, and integrated bird and bat boxes within the gable ends. To the rear, the elevation is predominantly glazed, capturing breathtaking views of the valley and maximising solar gain, with additional solar panels on the South-West and South-East roofs.
All house types have also been designed to utilise local stone framed with seamed metal roofing, reflecting the area’s quarry and lead mining heritage while maintaining their distinctive character.
