Reinstated traditional shopfront within a listed building
Guy Taylor Associates were appointed by our clients to provide architectural services in connection with the reinstatement of a former traditional shopfront.
The project was realised through the support of Newark High Street Heritage Action Zone grant funding from Historic England, secured by Newark and Sherwood District Council. The purpose of this funding is to promote the vitality of town centres by protecting, enhancing and celebrating heritage. The proposals reinstated the lost features of a previous shopfront which were accurately depicted from historic photographs and evidenced through the research undertaken, which influenced and informed the proposed design of the shopfront.
The project met the criteria for the Harry Johnson Award 2024 due to its faithful reinstatement of lost features, authenticity and high quality, achieved through a close attention to detail, both within the design process and craftsmanship on site.
