This Arts and Crafts style house is located within the Chorltonville conservation area of Manchester. The proposal includes new lower ground floor living accommodation, 3 storey timber framed extension and a full house eco retrofit conforming to Passivhaus principles.
The materials used on the proposed extension reflect the materials used on the existing dwelling but, the style of the proposed extension is more modern in appearance. This was a strategic approach to preserve the timeline of the original dwelling. The new addition is identifiable so that the existing dwelling can be read.
The new rear, mainly glazed, south facing extension allows greater penetration of light into the house and provides improved views out. The additional internal floor area created facilitates a subtle remodelling of space to provide additional amenities and greater functionality.
The proposed extension and internal alterations improve the property so that it can successfully meet the needs of a modern family dwelling.
The project was completed 2017.
